about ouch travel

Hi, I am Joselien!

A 22 year old girl who loves nature, connecting with new people, food and exploring. If I see one of my friends they would either say ‘Are you going on a holiday again?’ or I would say ‘Oh forgot to say but we are going to the other side of the world next week’. Most of the time together with my boyfriend and sometimes some recharging time alone.

I have always loved exploring new countries but back in 2020 it changed from holidays to traveling. Instead of going to all the ‘highlights’ I started looking for the real culture, local food, personal connections and traveling off the beaten track.

It started with Europe but quickly changed to Asia and more. Now since 2020 I have traveled to over 20 countries worldwide and still exploring every year.

This is the place for travellers who deeply respect the world and want to experience soul warming travel.

Why the name Ouch Travel?

As the slogan says ‘painfully beautiful travel’. During my last years of travel I experience that the real lasting and hartwarming experiences while traveling come with a some sacrifices. Some examples:

  • Traveling 40 hours to French Polynesia, sharing meals because the prices are so high, being insanely seasickness because we chose the local ferry. But in return, I get to swim with whales, see manta rays for the first time, meet the friendliest locals, eat fresh tuna daily, see the most blue waters with insane mountains and truly feel like I am in a Moana movie.

  • Taking multiple 12 hours bus rides with chickens and cockroaches next to you to travel through Sulawesi, a hole in the mud as toilet, the most simple accommodaties. But in return get to snorkel in the most untouched waters while staying on a uninhabited island, making amazing local friends, the most seethrough lake and bluest waters you’ve ever seen.

Real travel might give you some discomfort but the reward you get is undescripable. And this type of travel is not for everyone, some might enjoy a nice relaxing holiday more (which I also understand). On this website I will share routes and tips to travel locally while being realistic about both sides of traveling.

My Favorite: French Polynesia

Beyond the breathtaking views, French Polynesia offers a deeply rich culture and history. It’s a place where you can swim with whales, pick fresh fruit from trees everywhere, and meet some of the friendliest locals amidst the most stunning nature imaginable.
